KAP Program
A Structured Therapeutic Approach at Toronto Ketamine Clinic
Keta-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines medically supervised ketamine treatment with
psychotherapy and psychological integration. The program is designed to help individuals
explore thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and experiences within a supportive therapeutic
framework.
At Toronto Ketamine Clinic (TKC), KAP is delivered by experienced healthcare professionals
who work collaboratively to provide a patient-centered treatment experience. The program
integrates medical assessment, ketamine treatment sessions, psychotherapy, and ongoing
integration support.

What Is Keta-Assisted Psychotherapy?
Keta-Assisted Psychotherapy is a therapeutic model that combines ketamine treatment with
structured psychotherapy sessions. During treatment, some individuals may experience changes in perception, increased introspection, or altered patterns of thinking that can be explored with
the support of a qualified therapist.
The psychotherapy component focuses on helping patients prepare for treatment, process their experiences, and identify meaningful insights that may support their ongoing mental health care.
KAP is not a standalone treatment and is intended to be integrated with a broader treatment plan developed by a patient’s healthcare providers.

Conditions Commonly Evaluated for KAP
Patients may be assessed for KAP as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for conditions such
as:
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
- Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD)
- Bipolar Depression
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Anxiety Disorders
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Other mental health conditions where ketamine treatment may be considered appropriate by the treating physician
Eligibility is determined through a comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessment

The TKC KAP Process
1. Initial Assessment
Every patient begins with a medical and psychiatric evaluation to determine whether ketamine treatment is appropriate and safe. Medical history, current medications, previous treatments, and
treatment goals are reviewed
2. Preparation Sessions
Prior to treatment, patients meet with a therapist to discuss:
- Personal goals and intentions
- Current challenges and concerns
- Expectations for treatment
- Coping strategies and emotional preparation
- Safety planning and support systems
Preparation sessions help patients approach treatment with greater understanding and confidence.
3. Keta Treatment Sessions
IV therapy treatment is administered in a monitored clinical environment under the supervision
of qualified healthcare professionals.
During treatment, patients may choose to:
- Wear an eye mask
- Listen to music
- Focus on therapeutic intentions
- Engage in reflective practices
The treatment environment is designed to promote comfort, privacy, and safety.
4. Integration Sessions
Integration is an important component of the KAP process.
Following treatment once the patients return home, patients work with a therapist virtually to:
- Discuss their treatment experience
- Explore thoughts, emotions, and insights
- Identify meaningful themes
- Develop practical strategies for daily life
- Support ongoing personal growth and mental wellness
The goal of integration is to help patients understand and apply experiences from treatment
within the context of their everyday lives.
Program Structure
Although every treatment plan is individualized, a typical KAP program may include:
Phase 1: Foundation & Preparation
- Initial medical assessment
- Psychotherapy intake session
- Treatment planning
- Goal setting and preparation
Phase 2: Active Treatment
- Medically supervised ketamine sessions
- Scheduled psychotherapy support
- Ongoing monitoring by the clinical team
Phase 3: Integration & Maintenance
- Post-treatment integration sessions
- Review of treatment goals
- Development of long-term wellness strategies
- Coordination with community healthcare providers when appropriate
Safety and Monitoring
Patient safety remains our highest priority.
All patients undergo a comprehensive assessment before treatment. During IV therapy sessions, patients are monitored by trained healthcare professionals in a controlled clinical environment.
Not all individuals are suitable candidates for ketamine treatment. Treatment decisions are made on an individual basis following a review of medical history, psychiatric history, and current
health status.
